Pharmacists and Pharmacy: Evidence-Based Solutions to Global Threats

Pharmacists around the world are leading impactful professional services to combat the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and championing self-care strategies that empower communities to preserve health and manage common ailments. As key healthcare providers, pharmacists also play a vital role in improving vaccination coverage across all life stages, ensuring equitable access for all age groups. Through active participation in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), they are central to efforts for global health threats such as combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR), recognizing the interconnected challenges posed by climate change and promoting collaborative, One Health solutions. Pharmacists are driving progress toward workforce challenges and expanding access to medications and inclusive, patient-centred pharmaceutical care even in crisis situations through humanitarian initiatives.
