Leading the Charge Toward Guinea-worm Eradication: Health Ministers Take Stock of Achievements in 2025 and the Vision for 2026 and Beyond

The side event responds to WHA Resolution 78.14 in 2025, which called for accelerated intervention, sustained political will and financial commitment to eradicate Guinea worm. It also responds to earlier WHA commitments to control, eliminate and eradicate Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), particularly decision 73(33) in 2000, which endorsed the NTD road map 2021-2030; this set 2030 as the new target date for global Guinea-worm eradication. The global burden of disease caused by NTDs will be reviewed as an agenda item at WHA 79.
