Launch of the UHC2030 narrative on digital transformation of health systems for universal health coverage

At a time of increasing global instability marked by conflict, climate shocks, deepening inequalities and economic uncertainty, there is an urgent need to strengthen health systems which address the needs of all people and advance universal health coverage (UHC), health security, and the sustainable development goals. The digital revolution provides an unprecedented opportunity to transform health systems by driving UHC progress. However, access to health services remains uneven, with persistent inequalities continuing to pose a fundamental threat to achieving UHC.

Governments have committed to UHC through the Sustainable Development Goals and recent high-level political declarations. Yet today, 4.6 billion people still lack access to essential health services, and over 2.1 billion face financial hardship when paying for care. These inequalities disproportionately affect people in vulnerable and marginalized situations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

In this context, UHC2030, OECD, CSEM, DTH-Lab and Transform Health are launching a new Strategic Narrative to drive advocacy and action on digital transformation of health systems for UHC. The Strategic Narrative serves as a practical tool to support civil society, policymakers and other stakeholders to turn global commitments into concrete actions and sustained investments, placing UHC at the center of digital transformation and advancing more equitable health systems for all.
