From rights to reality: strengthening health outcomes and systems through safe abortion care in West and Central Africa

This timely high level side event, during the 79th World Health Assembly, will focus on realities and strategies shaping abortion care in West and Central Africa.

Grounded in WHO guidance, this conversation will bring together Governments, researchers, civil society and service providers to unpack current political and health system realities and to assess where and how progress is being made, where it is stalling and why.

This hybrid session will be an opportunity to hear new and emerging evidence alongside practical and transferable solutions drawn from policy reforms, financing approaches, and programming and advocacy initiatives underway in West and Central Africa. Through shared experiences and honest discussion, we will explore what it takes to translate policy commitments into real and measurable improved health outcomes for women and girls.
