Climate change, health and cities — From global commitments to local impact
This Global Cities Hub event will explore how multi-level cooperation can help address the health impacts of climate change and translate global commitments into local impact. Climate change is one of the major public health threats of the 21st century, affecting morbidity, mortality, health systems, and health equity, and cities are critical to turning national and global commitments into measurable action.
The session will focus on:
- The role of cities in implementing the Global Action Plan on Climate Change and Health
- Action on heatwaves, air pollution, flooding, and extreme weather events
Objectives include:
- Strengthening city engagement within WHA processes
- Demonstrating how cities contribute to national climate and health strategies
- Giving cities a platform to articulate policy messages based on local evidence
