Balanced policies for controlled medicines to ensure access and safety

Many essential medicines with psychoactive properties face
greater barriers in access and availability due to their
international control status as narcotic drugs/ psychotropic
substances. This side event aims to address the greater barriers
and additional efforts needed to raise awareness amongst
Member States to ensure access to controlled medicines, to
understand current challenges in ensuring safe, balanced access
to controlled medicines and their rational use, to discuss best
practices and experiences to identify solutions to adequately
address the issue within the national context and the global
community, and to raise awareness on WHO evidence-based
recommendations and good practice statements for national
policies.
