Aligning the Global Health Architecture for Equitable Access to Health Commodities

This event marks the fifth high-level dialogue organized by France and the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly. It brings together partners from across the global health ecosystem to help define the next phase of collaboration.

In recent years, significant progress has been made in research and development, manufacturing, and distribution systems. However, substantial gaps remain: nearly 2 billion people worldwide still lack access to the medicines they need. These gaps reflect persistent misalignments within the ecosystem—from innovation and licensing to financing, procurement, and national-level implementation—which continue to hinder the translation of innovation into equitable access.

At the same time, the global health architecture is evolving. Ongoing discussions at the World Health Assembly (WHA)—notably the Pandemic Accord, the PABS (Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing) annex, and broader reflections on health security—underscore the need for more coordinated, effective, and equitable approaches to preparedness and response.

In a context of limited global health funding, it is increasingly crucial to ensure the system operates more efficiently. No single instrument can guarantee access to medicines. Sustainable impact depends on better coordination between:

  • Research and Development
  • Licensing
  • Manufacturing
  • Financing
  • Pooled Procurement
  • Distribution

This dialogue will bring together perspectives from across the ecosystem to examine areas where better coordination is needed. It will highlight practical, cost-effective mechanisms that are already delivering results and can be scaled up to support equitable access and health security.

This event is by invitation only.
