Strengthening the Global Healthcare Ecosystem: Addressing the Health Worker Shortage

According to the World Health Organization, there is a projected  10 million shortfall of health workers across all positions and classifications by 2030 — the low end of an estimate that experts say could be 8x larger. This gap has far-reaching consequences that impact health, global health systems, and global economies. A forthcoming report from the McKinsey Health Institute (MHI) analyses the opportunities inherent in bridging the healthcare workforce gap, which could reduce the global disease burden and contribute significantly to the global economy.

Hosted by Devex, in partnership with the McKinsey Health Institute, join leaders from across the global health ecosystem for a dynamic discussion on what’s needed to address both the supply and demand side of this gap – and the role of the public, private, and social sectors in advancing progress.

Participants will:

  • Discover new insights quantifying the cost of the global health worker shortage – and health and economic opportunity of addressing the gap
  • Explore new frameworks for taking action to address the healthcare worker gap
  • Hear from a diverse set of leaders about what’s needed across geographies and sectors to address this gap, including how to increase the supply of community health workers, the shifts needed to improve overall healthcare service delivery, and the role of digital health and technology to ensure sustainable impact
  • Understand the importance of not only increasing healthcare worker supply, but also decreasing healthcare demand, and the innovations that can contribute to stronger systems for the future.
